Puntos a favor:

Lots of capability to manipulate record track church financial activity. Not so easy to use as it does have a steep learning curve. Customer support is nearly always sterling and most reps know their software. Lot's of features if you want the, but you do pay for what you get.

Puntos en contra:

Module sales approach. "Oh, you want that feature, then you need to get the xxxx module too." Deployment can be a bit ion a challenge.

Great All in One for Churches

Comentarios: Shelby is a great system for a church looking for a one stop shop for a financial system. While some of the software is cumbersome and not intuitive, it still offers everything you would need in one stop.

While it was definitely a step back from QBO, what I admired the most about Shelby is that offers so many services in one without having to bounce back and forth between various platforms. I have everything working together right there in one service. It is relatively easy to pick up and learn all the tasks you would need to know. Having the PO Management system has been one of the most cost beneficial additions to our organization.

There are several features that are less than intuitive. I will say the biggest area that is lacking in Shelby is a better credit card management system. I would love to have organization users be able to submit and code their own expenses. Their often times where updates don’t get made properly because of the excessive amount of click throughout.

Poor Project Management and Lazy Programmers

Comentarios: I will say that I like being able to access my financials online without having to host the data myself. The basic accounting functionality works most of the time allowing me to process checks, deposits, journal entries, and payroll. Their tech support people are nice enough, but if you have any complicated issues, good luck. Their software is buggy and the project manager/programmers don't seem overly concerned about sending out code that hasn't been fully tested.

Puntos a favor:

I like that I can use the basic features such as cutting AP checks, processing payroll, entering deposits, and posting GL entries. Posting those things are pretty straight forward.

Puntos en contra:

There are often bugs that make it into the live software that take a long time to get fixed, they assume the customer is wrong and it takes a lot to prove to them that there software is buggy, they don't want to program for multiple browsers causing bugs that are browser-specific, and they have to release emergency patches to fix buggy software issues. Hold times for support are often ridiculous and I have fixed the problem myself on several occasions (after waiting on hold) because I know more about the software than their techs. They have a non-existent API so don't expect this software to work with anything else. Their reporting leaves much to be desired and if you need to create a custom report, be prepared to spend hours setting it up because every change or account added forces the page to reload all of the data. I'm still waiting for them to fix the printing problem they introduced 6 months ago and still trying to get them to admit that their payroll vouchers don't show data properly (despite several examples of the problem). Three years in and I regret going with ShelbyNext, but the process of moving to new software is time-consuming thus I haven't moved away from them yet.

Shelby Financials Overall Viewpoint

Comentarios: Overall, as stated previously, it's a solid product and is light years ahead of our old software. There was a learning curve, but---it was well worth the effort.

The software is easy to use. I love some of the "short cuts" it offers when referenced against our old software package. (i.e.--the ease of voiding a check for example). It's pretty user friendly. I can usually find what I need by just looking through the menu options. Additionally, I was initially concerned/skeptical about a web based platform for our financial software (our previous setup was in house stand alone installation. No web interaction needed) But, it's been a very pleasant surprise! I have had few, if any, issues with this setup. Plus, being web based, I can get a quick view of every check or giving batch I ever enter---all on one page. Again, this was not available on our old package. Overall, a solid product.

Just a few little things. The initial setup for check printing was horrid. A lot of trial and effort went into that process. A second little thing that really annoys me. There is a set "time out" feature that the user cannot change. Meaning...I may be sitting at my computer but just not, at that moment, using the financial module of Shelby. If I don't access it in (what seems to be 2-5 minutes) I have to log back in again. As stated, this is just an annoyance. It would seem to me that the end user should be able to alter, or even disable, the automatic log off feature.

Comentarios: The wait time on support calls is very long. It takes 20+ minutes before speaking with a person. One of the last times I spoke with support, the person was incredibly rude, instead of helping me seek out the answer to my issue, they believed I did not understand how a payroll itself worked and multiple times attempted to explain it to me when told that wasn't the issue. When we converted the trainer assigned to us did not correctly set up our chart of accounts. Accounts from other churches were being placed in our COA. We required an on-site visit from a Shelby trainer to clear this up and continue using the software as intended. The software itself is working well, now that the COA is cleaned up. For the most part there is help available either through a support call, or through the Help function in each module. I recently received notice of the new online training MPOWER. I am looking forward to implementing and utilizing this feature.

The software is user friendly with clear modules, and help within each section.

I would like to see more personalization options with reporting, and the ability to save a set of reports from period to period; a "one-click" option for a commonly used set of reports.

Comentarios: Overall, switching to Shelby has simplified many processes in our office. Our old billing systems had become very slow and required a lot of work from management to roll over from year to year. Now the workload for those rollover procedures can be done by the benefits team, and billing takes much less time and effort than it used to.

Puntos a favor:

The system is easy to learn and navigate. It covers all our basic needs, including billing systems for our pension and insurance invoices. I love that it is cloud-based and easily accessible from anywhere.

Puntos en contra:

New releases seem to introduce bugs into the system. They are usually resolved relatively quickly with a patch, but more in-depth testing before releases would be more helpful. I've had to spend a lot of time fixing things which is very frustrating. Detail reporting for more than one year gets time-consuming because you have to switch back and forth and adjust filters and dates each time.

We transitioned from Shelby v5 and it was a very smooth transition. ShelbyNext Financials is very similar to Shelby v5 so we were able to pick right up and keep working. I like the task bar that allows me to easily switch from one thing the the next without having to close and open different modules. It is also very easy to run reports.

I had a hard time figuring out how to get all the various totals we needed on our balance sheet and income statement. I was able to get everything in place with the help of their support staff, but it was definitely not intuitive.

Comentarios: The support is top notch and Shelby is constantly adding features and updating the software. We are large non-profit organization and I see no issue with the software handling our needs going forward.

Easy to use. Common menus in every module. Customizable dashboard. Add on modules available.

Some specialty features would be nice, but feature request are constantly being added.

Shelby Make It Easy for us

Comentarios: The financials for Shelby is a plus for us. I like that you can create categories for everything.

Very helpful with custom lists and financial statements. Easy access and easy to learn and understand quickly.

They is nothing that I don't like about Shelby. I've been using the software since it came out. Very happy with it. Just hope we can upgrade to ShelbyNext soon. Currently we are still using Shelby V5 version.

Shelby Next - not for small staff church

Comentarios: My overall experience is that the financials section had too many shortfalls. I will be submitting a second review on the membership piece. v5 had it's limitations but was very disappointed in ShelbyNext | Financials.

I liked the ability to add departments and funds easily. We were sold on the complete financials, giving, and membership solution.

Our church is a good sized church, almost 2k members, but the accounting staff is small and the remainder of our support is overworked volunteers. After coming from Shelby v5 we were thinking that this was more robust. After trying to implement over a year, we pulled the went with another membership solution and went back with Shelby v5. It didnt integrate well with the giving piece, funds coming in electronically, nor membership, which is where the membership sits.

A solid package that meets the needs, though it has it's limitations.

The training and help line have been extremely responsive and that's my favorite part of working with Shelby; I know the help will be there when I need it! The system is in the cloud, so I can access it anywhere I am. I like the fact that I can drill down into financial statements to research numbers.

Puntos en contra:

The accounts receivable segment is extremely cumbersome and limited. Doesn't speak to ShelbyNext Membership OR User setup, so you have input every customer 3 times. Customers can't set up scheduled payments (and I've taken a lot of heat for that!). No mass edit/invoice feature so you can't bill all customers or correct a large group of invoices for the same thing without entering every record. Can't email invoices! No good way to track memorial contributions so that you can send acknowledgements. Generally, inputting requires A LOT of clicking, because the system doesn't search for account by name (we call it the Shelby Shuffle!). Chart of accounts process is very convoluted.

Great software for our church

Comentarios: Overall, the software is pretty flexible. There are a few reporting limitations regarding different formats but nothing significant. I would recommend this software.

Puntos a favor:

The software was easy to learn and financial statement setup was pretty straightforward. I also liked the ability to customize the dashboard. We have a church and school that are set up as separate companies but under the same tax ID. The software allows for combined payroll tax reports, W-2s and 1099s.

Puntos en contra:

The software doesn't allow a correction to a journal entry - you have to enter a completely new entry to correct it. There is no automation when entering entries that affect more than one fund - it doesn't automatically create a due to/due from.

Not user friendly

Comentarios: Overall, I would not recommend this system to anything other than a church. As a religous, non-profit educational facility, it doesn't really meet our needs.

The optional reports you can print are great, as well as, the way the system is set up to double check your input before you finalize in the ledger.

Puntos en contra:

It's not very user friendly. I have used it for at least 5 years, and there are still areas that I'm not sure about. Also, the reports don't always show what they are suppose to show.

Pros and Cons..

Comentarios: Overall, it is a good product to use. I think all systems have pros and cons to them. When anomalies happen with the system I wish support had an answer for it instead of telling us there is a glitch in the system. We hear this quite often.

I love the import and export features of ShelbyNext. It makes doing budgets and journal entries so much easier.

Puntos en contra:

It is so slow. Approving check requests takes quite a bit of time. Also if I want to change the budget dollars around for a couple of accounts there is a lot of waiting time. Running special reports takes quite a bit of time as well.

ShelbyNext Financials-Good Experience

Comentarios: We operate a preschool and medium size church with the Financials. The software supports multiple companies, multiple funds and multiple fiscal year ends. It is very user friendly and intuitive.

Puntos a favor:

Financials has been easy to adapt to and easy to teach others on staff. It integrates smoothly with SN Membership. The Shelby support team has been great to work with and always responsive.

Puntos en contra:

When we hosted the software on our server, we never seemed to have the latest updates. Once we moved to hosted operations, we are always up to date and have the latest fixes.

Awful -- wish there were a negative 10 rating for customer support

Nothing to like - I guess that you have to submit a certain number of characters in this box to get your review accepted, so I will say that, compared to the functions that never worked, we preferred those that worked after an enormous amount of wasted time with the clunky interface

Difficult to configure, difficult and time consuming to use, patched together modules that are not integrated (to the point where you actually have 3 different websites to go to), absolutely no customer support. We never got it fully implemented and had to dump it after a year of trying -- lost several thousand dollars in "setup and training" fees for services which were never performed.

Comentarios: Over all it has been positive. It solved quite a few problems when we changed over.

I was able to delete old accounts, etc from the old software making it more organized. There seem to be some additional features that makes things easier. I like being able to let technical support know the challenges I am having they are working to fix. We like all the giving options but I think the cost is too high.

Puntos en contra:

Its hard to remember to change checking accounts. Not in a very good location. There seems to be a lot of things that need tweaking. I don't like the fact in the reports module that I can not print reports that include more than one year. There isn't enough flexibility there.

A Good Software for Larger Churches

Comentarios: I love it! Especially on the forms side of things. They have made our lives so much easier.

I love all the different features and functionalities of Shelby. The features available allow you to do a lot, which is important when working with people. The interface is also quite nice and user friendly.

Sometimes I feel that the process involved in the software are over-complicated. Some processes, although very helpful, can have a high number of steps.

The transfer from Quickbooks to ShelbyNext Financials was fairly easy due to the great support staff

Comentarios: This software allows detailed reports that are easily ran for a specific month or period of time. Cutting checks is simple and the system allows a lot of detail so you know exactly what each check is written for. I really like the ability to be specific while using this software.

I like that this software is detailed and had a variety of reports that can easily be ran. I also like that you can carry forward your budget for a quick start to next year's budget.

I find that when I make a mistake it can sometimes be cumbersome to fix. It often takes a call to the support team; who are usually able to walk me through the fix.

ShelbyNext Financials makes sense

Comentarios: Once again, just having a cloud based program has made a huge difference in our office. No more restarting the server or troubleshooting connection problems, etc.

For us moving to a cloud based product has been very helpful. Accounts payable with credit card transaction tracking is very helpful.

There is room for improvement as far as data entry. I think some of the steps could be modified so that it is quicker. The use of projects which I use a lot was made more difficult instead of easier. But this does not change my mind about the product.

Easy to Use Software

Comentarios: Good Experience overall and would pick it again. Nice Product.

The web based program is easy to use. Support is quick to answer and the Community is a great network of advice.

Puntos en contra:

The software glitches a lot and has a lot of automatic updates that cause glitches sometimes. But overall it is not a problem. Just need patience with it when that happens.

Comentarios: As mentioned previously, it is accessible from anyplace since it is an online system. I really don't know what else I can say.

It is a web based software which means it could be accessed from anyplace, home, vacation etc. I also like that it interacts with Shelby Arena.

Sometimes it runs a little slow because of it being an online software. Other than that there are no issues.

Comentarios: I love the help desk. The ease of transferring to the new was remarkable. We lost no data.

Puntos a favor:

Being able to attach forms is helpful on the Human resource side. The reporting aspects are strong and easy to use.

Puntos en contra:

I wish the tabs could be combined. Address, phone, email, demographic could be on one page. Having to hit the accept button is frustrating. Sometimes I get interrupted in the office with other issues and lose all my input because the program cuts you off the software. Needs to allow you to stay on longer.
